we all got a commemorative coin. I wonder how many still exist and whether they are valued enough to buy a mars-bar,
In 1953 we all got a Coronation mug and a New Testament. I still have mine but not worth much monetarily.

saluting the flag was something not encountered very often here in the 1970s uk, in fact that kind of nationalism or patriotism was something i'd been warned about as a young boy, being brought up in the jehovah's witnesses from age 4, through meetings and the publications.
at some point, i don't know when, i decided it was more american, whether rightly or wrongly.. but even so, there was a large black and white photo of our entire school in panoramic format right outside my classroom on the wall saluting the flag, and i think this was the 1977 25 year jubilee of queen elizabeth ii.. now as a young person attending a fairly religious school in the 1970's, you were used to "making a stand" for things, letter in hand first day in a new class, and being ushered into one room or another to avoid religious assemblies and other xmas, and other seasonal celebrations.. one day the teachers, in their abundant wisdom, stood myself and a younger witness in the corridor right outside the assembly hall where the children would filter past.
every second or third child that filtered past would ask, "why are you standing there?

I never had any problems at school. I did not go into "Assembly" each morning until the end when the announcements were read out. I was the only JW but the Catholics did likewise and nobody bothered. We all sat in the library which was adjacent to the Main Hall.
Likewise at the end of a film at the cinema, as soon as "The End" came on screen there was a rush for the exits, where I lived I don't think there were many Royalists.
The only time I was really embarrassed was at my degree ceremony. We were all standing and as the National Anthem started I had to sit down. Later, probably in the 1980's there was a QFR and it said if you were already standing there was no need to sit.

the watchtower has printed a disturbing article about self control and gives this instruction to the r & f .
self-control also allows us to remain silent when opposers try to trick us into revealing things that could endanger our brothers and sisters.
this might occur when we are being interrogated by the police in a land where our work is banned or restricted.
To use the old phrase "Theocratic Warfare".

i know this subject has been talked about lots over the years, just thought i would share a recent finding from canada.. while visiting with a group of friends, an elder (don’t recall how the subject came up) mentioned the local body had voted to allow brothers with beards be allowed to give talks from the platform.
(it was a very close vote).
the direction given was for each congregation to decide for themselves if that is now acceptable.. so some congregations will be for, and for many it will not.. it’ll probably be a long time before we see any pictures on the watchtower where they’re allowing this though..
Here in the UK in our congregation there are several brothers who have a full beard and are used to give talks, other meeting parts and prayers etc.
Back in the 1970's in another part of the country, I had a beard and never had any problem. Maybe a case of having to use what you have, cannot afford to be too choosy!

so we have been "green" blowing up all our coal power plants now they are saying we are like north korea...expect regular power blackouts.
who is running this show?.
Meanwhile they want us to buy battery powered cars. Exactly how is that supposed to work without the ability to charge them?
Meanwhile the UK government has just announced that electric car grants have been scrapped with immediate effect.

wow.
this story is so stunningly sad.
the good guy finishes last, as he has a crisis of conscience and ends up leaving behind four kids.
Very sad indeed. Reminded me of Oompah.

more than 60 percent of our full-time translation teams work, not at branch offices, but at remote translation offices (rto).
why is this arrangement beneficial?
what equipment do translators need in order to work effectively at an rto?
The Anglesey property was sold many years ago. I always wondered how they justified buying the place.

saw this while browsing the jw site.
cartoons of rutherford.
😆 .
A very strange video. The GB drawings were really caricatures, I'm surprised they allowed that. Rutherford, Lett and Knorr were also obvious but I think someone on here could probably put names and events to many of the others.
